Onam is the harvest festival and is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm all over Kerala. It falls during the first Malayalam month of Chingam(August-September) and lasts for 10 days. The festival is unique since it marks the home coming of Kerala’s mythological King Mahabali who is revered by people of Kerala from pre-history. It is also considered as a New Year celebration. The festival portrays rich cultural heritage of India. Rich cultural heritage of Kerala comes out in its best form and spirit during the ten day festival.
The spirit of Onam prevailed in Vivekananda Polytechnic as Malayalee students of Vivekananda Polytechnic and Vivekananda Polytechnic lecturers joined in the celebration of Onam on Monday 27th October.
Malayalee students made intricately designed flower mat, Pookalam in the vestibule of Vivekananda Polytechnic. Principal Sri. Gopinath Shetty, opened the ten day long celebrations by lighting the lamp and wished all the student community a happy and prosperous Onam.
Sri Harekrishna B, HOD Mechanical Department, Sri Raviram HOD Civil Department Sri. Chandra Kumar Lecturer, Science Department and Sureshchandra KK lecturer in English were also present and they also greetedthe students.
